Rodrigo Figueiredo

Rodrigo Figueiredo is the President and Founder of the My Ocean Institute (Instituto Meu Oceano), an organization dedicated to advancing zero-emission maritime mobility, environmental education, and socio-environmental innovation within Brazil’s coastal communities. Under his leadership, the Institute has built a national network of NEIAs — (Environmental Entrepreneurship and Innovation Hubs) — with active units in Perequê (Guarujá), Itajaí (SC), Cubatão (SP), Serra do Guararu (Guarujá), and the São Paulo headquarters. These hubs foster a collaborative ecosystem connecting entrepreneurs, scientists, and local communities. The NEIAs have already incubated and accelerated startups focused on the blue economy, clean energy, urban aquaponics, and regenerative technologies, developing solar and electric vessels while training new environmental leaders. Rodrigo also leads the "Circum Navegação da Baixada Santista" project, winner of the 2025 SP Carbono Zero Award, and has stood out as a key advocate for a just energy transition, ocean literacy, and the strengthening of the blue economy in Brazil.

Blue Breath: The Role of the Seas in the Balance of Climate and Life

The oceans regulate the climate, absorb carbon, and serve as the cradle of the planet’s greatest biodiversity—but they face growing pressure from plastic pollution and climate change. This panel discusses public policies, legal frameworks, and preservation efforts focused on mangroves, coastal zones, and the high seas, highlighting the urgency of integrated ocean governance. Bringing together science, coastal communities, and global initiatives aligned with the UN Decade of Ocean Science, the discussion reflects on how to protect this “blue breath” that is essential to life and the planet’s future.
