Renata Isfer

Renata Isfer is the Executive President of the Brazilian Biogas Association (ABiogás). She previously served as Secretary and Deputy Secretary for Oil, Natural Gas, and Biofuels at the Ministry of Mines and Energy of Brazil from 2019 to 2020, where she co-led the negotiation for the revision of the production sharing agreement (cessão onerosa) and the auction of surplus volumes. For three years, she served as Legal Advisor to the Ministry, actively contributing to the creation of public policies that enabled the recovery of Brazil’s gas, oil, electricity, and mining sectors. With over 16 years of experience as a Federal Attorney at the Office of the Attorney General of the Union (AGU), she holds a Master’s degree in Law, Public Policy, and Economic Development, and completed an executive program on Women’s Leadership at the Harvard Kennedy School. Renata is also co-founder of the project “Sim, Elas Existem” (“Yes, They Exist”), which promotes gender equity in leadership positions, and of EmpodereC, a mentorship program for young women in the energy sector. She is the proud mother of Catarina and Tomás.

Biofuels: Innovation and the Decarbonization of the Energy Matrix

With its strong agricultural and industrial base—particularly in the sugar-energy sector—the State of São Paulo is strategically positioned to lead the production, innovation, and commercialization of second- and third-generation biofuels. This panel will discuss opportunities for technological development, incentive policies, and supply chain integration to expand the role of biofuels in both the state and national energy matrix. It will also address regulatory challenges, environmental sustainability, and socioeconomic impacts, seeking solutions that balance efficiency, innovation, and the creation of green jobs.
