Joaquim Leite has a solid trajectory in the environmental, political, and business areas. In the Federal Government, he implemented public policies focused on the development of renewable energies, especially offshore wind and green hydrogen, sanitation, solid waste management and recycling, the carbon and methane market, the concession of national parks, sustainable mobility and logistics, payment for environmental services, environmental education, among others.
He served as the Minister of the Environment of Brazil between 2021 and 2022, leading the Brazilian delegation at the Climate Conferences COP26 (Glasgow) and COP27 (Sharm el-Sheikh). He served as a Councillor (or Board Member) at the Energy Research Company (EPE) between 2022 and 2023 and as the Secretary for the Amazon and Environmental Services between 2019 and 2020. Additionally, he participated in the Oceans Conferences in Lisbon, Stockholm +50, the G20 in Bali, the UN General Assembly, and the Summit of the Americas.
In the private sector, he has long experience in the agribusiness sector, as a coffee producer and a Councillor (or Board Member) at the Brazilian Rural Society. He is currently the Founding Partner of YVY Capital and Vivens Business School — initiatives focused on the transition to the green economy — and serves as a Councillor (or Board Member) for the companies Minerva, CIMED, and JHSF.
