Alliance for the Atlantic Forest: Water Security, Climate, People, and Development in the Medium Tietê and Paraíba do Sul Basins

The SOS Mata Atlântica Foundation is launching the Alliance for the Atlantic Forest, a coalition of companies committed to the conservation and restoration of the biome, especially in the Medium Tietê and Paraíba do Sul river basins, at a pre-COP30 event. These territories concentrate the contemporary challenges for providing essential ecosystem services for the society’s multiple uses — cities, industry, and agribusiness. In total, they cover more than 5 million hectares, 170 municipalities, and 12 million inhabitants, with a restoration potential of over 300 thousand hectares of Permanent Preservation Areas (APP). These regions are strategic for carbon sequestration, nature-based solutions, and the strengthening of the Brazilian economy.
