Raquel Schenkman

President of the São Paulo section of the Institute of Architects of Brazil (IABsp) since 2023, she was the organizer of the 14th edition of the São Paulo International Architecture Biennial held at the Oca between September and October 2025. She organized the book on the 80th anniversary of the IABsp and led the organization, by the Institute, of the design competitions for Sesc (Galeria, Mogi and Prudente), Bixiga Municipal Park, and the State Administrative Center. An architect and urban planner with a master's degree from the Faculty of Architecture and Urbanism at USP (University of São Paulo), she served as Director of the Department of Historical Heritage and president of Conpresp between 2019 and 2020, during which time she implemented the plaques and the Inventory of São Paulo Memory (Inventário da Memória Paulistana) and held the 5th Heritage Journey (5ª Jornada do Patrimônio), which was awarded by the APCA (São Paulo Association of Art Critics) for valuing architectural culture.

Urban Redevelopment and Sustainable Transformation: The Case Study of São Paulo’s New Center

The panel discusses the challenges and opportunities of urban redevelopment as a tool to promote sustainability, social inclusion, and innovation. Using the example of the New Center of São Paulo, strategies will be explored to redevelop public spaces, stimulate the local economy, and integrate green solutions into urban projects. The session will also address how public policies, partnerships, and community participation can make urban centers more vibrant and resilient.
