Artificial Intelligence and Sustainability – Challenges and Opportunities

The expansion of artificial intelligence heralds a new era of efficiency and innovation, but also imposes a growing challenge: the high energy and environmental costs of the digital systems that sustain this revolution. Data centers, data mining, and the training of large AI models consume expressive volumes of energy and natural resources, pressuring global decarbonization targets. This panel discusses how governments, corporations (or companies), and researchers can align artificial intelligence with the principles of sustainability — through green infrastructure, computational efficiency, ethical governance, and the use of clean energy. The future of AI depends on its capacity to think, yes — but to think sustainably.
