Agenda SP+Verde is launched in São Paulo

Pre-COP event aims to bring together more than 5,000 people per day at Villa-Lobos Park for a major debate on climate change and sustainable development

The São Paulo State Government, the São Paulo City Hall, and the University of São Paulo (USP) will sign an agreement on Thursday (5), World Environment Day, to hold the Agenda SP+Verde Summit, a major pre-COP event at Villa-Lobos Park on November 4th and 5th. The event will bring together different sectors of society in a debate on sustainable development, and will result in a letter with commitments and actions signed by the organizers and supporters.

The signing ceremony is part of the program for the World Environment Day commemorative event, held by the State Secretariat of Environment, Infrastructure, and Logistics (Semil), with the participation of various government departments. “It is in a spirit of cooperation that we are launching the SP+Verde Agenda on this World Environment Day. From this productive dialogue, which will culminate in November at a major event in Villa Lobos Park, we want to establish the necessary partnerships and connections so that together we can take another leap towards sustainable development,” says Semil Secretary Natália Resende.

Natália emphasizes that the state of São Paulo has much to contribute to the climate debate, as it is at the forefront of several green initiatives. “Our strategy integrates technology, science, public policies, and social participation, and positions us as a national and international benchmark in building a resilient, competitive, and inclusive development model in the face of the climate challenges that lie ahead. We are at the center of the global climate agenda, and we have much to contribute through our well-structured planning and actions,” she says.

“The city of São Paulo will actively participate in COP 30. The municipality has made significant progress, with over 54% of its areas greened, nature-based solutions, investment in micro and macro drainage, changes to the energy matrix of public transportation, among many other actions to combat the effects of climate change,” emphasized José Renato Nalini, Executive Secretary of Climate Change for the City of São Paulo.

The initiative is already sponsored by Itaú, Cosan, and Sabesp, and has institutional support from SOS Mata Atlântica, Movimento Circular, and the Institute for Coastal Conservation. It is being organized by InvestSP, with support from SPNegócios.

Structure

The event will feature five discussion stages, four of which will be thematic, focusing on Green Finance, Climate Justice, Resilience and the Future of Cities, and Energy Transition and Decarbonization. The schedule of lectures and discussions, which will be announced soon, will feature leading figures in the national and international climate debate, as well as representatives from participating public agencies and organizations, with over 20 hours of content, from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Other themed spaces are also planned, focusing on the Circular Economy, Technology, and Innovation, as well as an activation area for sponsors.

A cultural program is scheduled to begin at 6:00 PM on both days, with an emphasis on promoting São Paulo’s culture. Gastronomy will also be a distinctive feature of the event, with the participation of major brands operating in the state offering exclusive experiences to guests.

Admission to the event will be free, with tickets available in advance on a platform to be announced soon. The entire structure is being designed with activations and immersive activities to offer participants opportunities for interaction and reflection on the event’s themes, inviting everyone to move from intention to action, generating effective climate change.

In terms of communications, the São Paulo State Government’s SP Agency will have an on-site content hub, producing and broadcasting content in real time.

Visits and Business Roundtables

The event will feature an international business roundtable, organized by the City of São Paulo with support from SP Negócios and InvestSP.

A schedule of visits to sustainable tourist attractions and business case studies on sustainability, energy transition, and innovation will also be organized. Delegations will be invited to board sustainable buses to explore the different attractions and initiatives. The schedule will soon be available on the event website, where people can register for the desired visit.
